Anaba, Uke lead new NGE executive committee

The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) at it’s Biennial National Convention in Enugu on Friday, returned unopposed, the editor of Vanguard newspaper, Mr. Eze Anaba, as President to serve second and final term of two years.

Also elected by a wide margin was the Managing-Director of The Sun Newspapers, Mr. Onuoha Ukeh, who was elected Secretary-General to replace Dr. Iyobosa Uwugiaren of ThisDay newspapers, who had completed the a second term at the office and now elected Treasurer to succeed Mr. Steve Nwosu, publisher of Nigerian Xpress, who also had completed the mandatory two terms on that position.

Similarly, Dr. Abu Sabastine Mohammed of the Nigerian Standard newspapers, Jos, Plateau state, was elected Deputy President.

The Vice-President, East, of the body, Mr. Sheddy Ozoene of Peoples & Politics newspaper was returned unopposed, just as Dr. Kabir Alabi of Guardian newspapers, who was returned as VP-West and a new entrant, the acting Managing Editor/Editorial Board Chairman of  Daily Trust, Mr. Hamza Idris, was elected unopposed as Vice President (North).

Equally returned unopposed were the Assistant Secretary-General, Mr. Gabriel Akinadewo of Freedom Online, and the Social/Publicity Secretary, Mr. Charles Kalu of People 105.5 FM.

For the ex-officio executive members, Ms. Rose Moses of Newsmart Online, Olabisi Deji-Folutile of Franktalknow.com and Juliet Bumah of the New Telegraph, an all-female squad, were elected to represent the West Zone.

The Northern zone elected Alhaji Umoru Ibrahim of Triumph newspapers, and Paulyn Ugbodaga of New Ultra 360 Media & Allied Services, got elected.

Similarly, Chinedu Max Egere of Newscorneronline, and Ikpong Essien-Udom of Newsfront were elected as ex-officio for the East.
