Explosion rocked a bus stop opposite Mogadishu Barracks in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, on Monday, killing one person and injuring another.

An eyewitness, a military personnel, who did not give his name at the scene of the blast said the man believed to be a suicide bomber was killed by an explosive contained in a rubber can close to Mogadishu barrack in Abuja.

According to AIT, military authorities present at the scene said the situation could be explosive from a phone device and not IED explosive.

At the time of this report both the military personnel, DSS, police and officers of National Emergency Management Agency are still trying to take inventory of the situation.

No official statement has been issued by authorities on the incident.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army has reacted to the explosion which rocked the Mogadishu Cantonment popularly known as Abacha Barracks on Monday, May 26.

In a post made on X, the Nigerian Army said the situation is currently under control.

“Explosion at Bus Stop Opposite Mogadishu Cantonment Abuja. Situation Under Control. Details Later,” Army wrote on X.

Sources privy to the incident had earlier stated that a suspected suicide bomber tried to gain access into the barrack.

It was also gathered that the suspected suicide bomber was killed in the process while a bystander was injured in the incident.
