The Anambra State Government has demolished over four buildings allegedly being used as hideouts by kidnappers at Umu-Umejiaku Nnewi, and Umuogbo Obiofia Nnewi-Ichi, all in Nnewi-North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The demolition exercise was carried out on Tuesday, January 4, 2025.
According to Mr. Nonso Nwosu, President General of Ndieze Nwankwo Nnewi, the demolished bungalows belonged to allehed notorious kidnapper, described simply as Mr. Ifedigbo, who he said, had long been tormenting the community.
Speaking on the operation, the Special Adviser to Governor Soludo on Community Security, Mr. Ken Emeakayi, who led men of Operation Udo Ga-Achi in executing the demolition, stayed that the demolition aligns with the Anambra State Homeland Security Laws.
He added that the rescue of kidnapped victims, as confirmed by community leaders, further justified the demolition.
In their separate remarks, the Majority Leader of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme, and the Mayor of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Mr. Echezona Anazodo, commended the state government for its swift response and urged community leaders and residents of the state to provide useful information that could assist track and suppress criminals in the state.
Present at the operation were the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim; the Special Adviser on Community Security, Chief Ken Emeakayi; the House Committee Chairman on Security and Majority Leader, Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme; the Chairman of Nnewi North Local Government, Mr. Echezona Anazodo; and Hon. Augustine Ike.
