Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has described his inability to get a book out of foremost educationist, Simeon Adebo as one he lived to regret till date.
Obasanjo stated this while speaking at the induction of new members into the Egba Legacy Network (ELN) held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta.
The former Nigerian leader narrated the influence the librarian had on his upbringing, stating that the passion exhumed by Simeon Adebo was what shaped his passion for the country.
“If baba want to go and urinate, he will ask me to follow him. Anywhere he goes he will take me along.
“One day he asked me, oh, you want to write a book. Who will write it for you and I said Prof. Biobaku, the historian. He agreed he would give it a good shot.
“I then ask if I can bring him so we can start, but by the time we got there he had changed his mind.
“He said, Segun, if I write everything that I know, the whole place will scatter. I then told him I wouldn’t publish it when you are alive.
“He then said I should go and come back. When I returned, he said he is not interested in giving me a book about himself”, he added.
Obasanjo however commended the effort of Egba Legacy Network, while urging them to avoid pitfalls of history, emphasizing that the historical context of Egbaland sons and daughters must not be subjected to political exuberances.
