All Progressives Congress (APC) dempers at the Rivers State House of Assembly have expressed strong reservations over the decision by Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s presentation of the 2025 Appropriations Bill to the three-member Assembly led by Victor Oko-Jumbo.
This issue dominated 31st December , 2024 plenary of that faction of the Assembly, at which its Judicial Committee, chaired by Deputy Speaker Dumle Maol, presented the Court of Appeal’s judgment that upheld both the legitimacy of the House and the Speakership of Martin Amaewhule.
That Appeal Court’s decision is being appealed at the Supreme Court by the Oko-Jimbo group.
Following the budget presentation, the Deputy Speaker condemned the governor for failing to comply with the court’s verdict.
In his comments, the Speaker of the faction, Hon. Amaewhule, expressed concern over the governor’s persistent disregard for the rule of law.
The previous day, 30th December, 2024, Gov. Fubara had presented the 2025 budget proposal, valued at ₦1.1 trillion, to the Assembly led by Oko-Jumbo.
Fubara described the 2025 budget as a blueprint for building on the successes of his administration in 2024, and laying strong foundation for sustainable development.
The governor also highlighted the performance of the ₦800 billion 2024 budget, noting that the state had achieved significant milestones, particularly in economic growth and revenue generation.
