Following claims and counterclaim over the invasion of the headquarters of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) by security operative said to be policemen, the police have formally invited the President of the NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero, for investigation over alleged terrorism Financing.
A police invitation letter with reference number CR:3000/FID/IRT/ABJ/ADM/VOL.7) 446 dated 19th August, 2024 and signed by ACP Adamu S. Muazu, of the Department of Force Intelligence, directed Mr. Ajaero to be at the office in Tuesday, 20th August, 2024 at 10am to interview the ACP through the Team Leader with telephone number 08035179870.
The letter of invitation specifically stated that the NLC president is being invited in a case of “criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, treasonable felony, subversion and cybercrime, in which you (Ajaero) was mentioned”.
Ajaero was warned that failure to heed to the invitation, the police will have no option than to activate a warrant for his arrest.
Recall that after the NLC officials said hooded security personnel in the mould of operatives of the Depart of State Services (DSS) invaded the NLC headquarters, ransacked, carted away documents and destroyed some of their property, the DSS denied carrying out the said operation.
The police later claimed responsibility but added that they merely invaded a shop annexed to the complex hired by a businessman suspected to be involved in terrorism activities.
The latest invitation is seen by the organised labour as a crack down in labour movement for supporting the Hunger protests which took place nationwide for weeks during which property and offices were vandalised.
