The first civilian governor of Abia State and former Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation under President Muhammadu Buhari, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, has transited.
Aged 72 years, he was the longest serving minister of the ministry.
According to sources, Dr. Onu had been in an Abuja hospital for over a month battling an undisclosed ailment.
Details of his death are still sketchy, but sources close to his family confirmed that he died today, Thursday, in Abuja.
A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, Dr. Onu was one of the presidential aspirants on the party’s platform during the 2023 election.
He was a politician, author and engineer until his death in April 2024.
