The Anambra State government has expressed its commitment to improving the standard of education in the state.
The deputy governor, Dr Onyeka Ibezim, said this in Awka when he received in audience, Dr Iyela Ajayi, Executive Secretary, National Senior Secondary Education Commission, (NSSEC).
Ibezim said the already running free basic education in the state was a demonstration of the state government’s commitment to improving access to education in the state.
Ibezim also said the recruitment of 5000 qualified teachers in the state also showed the determination of the Prof. Charles Soludo-led administration to provide quality education for students in the state.
According to him, the state government had also provided grants to public, private and missionary schools in the state in its bid to make education affordable to children from both poor and rich families.
Earlier, Ajayi told the deputy governor of the plans of the commission to establish a regional office in Anambra.
“The commission will soon commence the upgrading of infrastructures in some selected public senior secondary schools in the country, which Anambra State would be a beneficiary,” Ajayi said.
He said the commission and the state needed to a synergy that would benefit the two partners in development of senior secondary education in the state.
