The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Wednesday made its presence felt at the Labour Party secretariat, staging a protest against the party’s upcoming national convention scheduled for the end of the month.
Amidst uncomplimentary chants they also called for the removal of the National Chairman of the party, Barr. Julius Abure.
The political wing of the trade union alleged that Abure was orchestrating a clandestine convention, excluding the participation of key stakeholders.
This move has sparked tensions between Abure, the NLC, as well as the House of Representatives caucus.
The workers vehemently accused Abure of orchestrating the demise of the Labour Party, expressing concerns over its future under his leadership.
The aggrieved workers shoved aside the police and destroyed the main entrance gate of the secretariat, with the police watching them helplessly.
The House caucus led by Hon. Adam Ogene had engaged the party’s leadership accusing them of sidelining them in the plans to hold the convention.
Dr. Obiora Ifoh, the National Publicity Secretary of the party had engaged the Reps caucus of disregarding the party, while Ogene’s aid said Ifoh was infantile in the statements he made against his bosses.
