In spite of promises by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, Kidnappers took their bold infamy to the Military and abducted two people at the Army Estate, Kurudu, Phase 2 in Abuja Thursday night.
The disgraceful incident, occurred at about 10:00 p.m. in the Phase 2 area of the estate, with sources saying the kidnappers came into the estates and took away the wife and one of the in-laws of one Barr. Cyril Adikwu.
The violation of security by hoodlums and crim8nal elements in spite of the huge presence of security agencies and gadgets at their disposal, is beginning to make residents attribute the resurgence of persistent crimes to the secret enlistment of so-called repentant Boko Haram elements into the nations arms of security.
In just one week, all the Area Councils in the FCT and adjourning communities have been invaded by gunmen who had whisked several people into their dungeon, killing some of them and demanding ransom through telephone calls, yet the security appears helpless.
According to Austine John, who is a neighbour to the victims in Kurudu Army Estate, the kidnappers came in, started shooting while they invaded the Barrister’s house and took away his wife and in-law although the lawyer escaped.
“It started at about 10:00 pm when we suddenly started hearing gunshots, and we immediately knew something had gone wrong. I immediately went out to make sure my gate was well locked.
“After a short period, we heard the gunshots in the Barrister’s house, and we alerted the estate’s management, who immediately swung into action.
“Within a ahort period of time, some Soldiers came around and started shooting too, but before they came, the kidnappers had taken the wife and one of the in-laws of the Barrister and fled.
“This is really traumatising because we could not sleep throughout the night due to fear of the kidnappers coming back.
“President Tinubu should please help Nigerians and put an end to this barbaric act by the kidnappers through a holistic probe of the goings on within the nation’s security architecture”.
Said another Kurudu resident: “Fear has enveloped everyone in Abuja; one-chance people are kidnapping and robbing their passengers in a free rein. People are attacked along the streets, either robbed or whisked away.
“The other day, somebody was kidnapped in the city center and was rescued several kilometers away in Kaduna, even though we have several security operatives who were posted ostensibly to keep security and those hoodlums took the man in his car to that length before their were rescued. Curiously, the criminals escaped; their usual refrain,” another respondents who chose anonymity said.
