The family of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu (MNK) leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has accused the Department of State Services(DSS) of barring visitors from reaching him.
Kanu’s brother, Emmanuel, claimed that the DSS took the decisions to prevent them from knowing the current status of “his deteriorating health condition”.
The presidency and the DSS have continued to keep Nnamdi Kanu in their custody in Abuja despite courts ordering his release, after his rendition from Kenya in June 2021.
Emmanuel, however, lamented that the secret police had refused to allow visitors access to Kanu, stressing that the action remains suspicious.
“DSS is stopping my brother’s visitors from seeing him, which is another flagrant disregard of a subsisting court order and their effort to conceal my brother’s deteriorating health condition.
“For me, the DSS has become a private security company, where the authority manages it as personal family business.
“I’m yet to know why my brother is still currently in detention against court orders,” he said.
