The House of Representatives has expressed its disappointment over the security architecture in the country especially with regard to the ongoing attacks in some parts of the country which has led to the death of security personnels and innocent citizens.
Sequel to a motion moved on the floor of the green chamber today, Hon. Blessing Onuh informed the house that it was disheartening to note that ten person’s were killed in a bank robbery in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State on Friday 20th October 2023, three police men being among them.
According to Hon. Onuh, the House condemns the killings of security personnel, bank officers and other innocent persons caught in the robbers’ Web and urged the Nigeria Police Force, DSS, Army and other security agencies to make efforts to arrest and prosecute perpetrators.
Hon. Onuh also raised concerned that residents of Otukpo town are currently feeling traumatized by last Friday’s
incident and are greatly feeling unsafe.
Worried that the Security architecture of Otukpo Community, particularly the police and vigilante are badly demoralized.
More worrisome, is that the commercial and business activities are currently bautted in Otukpo and Benue South as a whole. Banks and other commercial institutions have completely shut down operations.
In his contribution, Hon. Ahmed Jaha Baba, who disagreed that the attack was orchestrated by armed robbers noted that it was rather a terrorist attack, and that security personnels should be empowered so they can match these perpetrators of evil in the country to bring back the lost glory of the country in terms of commerce.
The speaker of the House Hon. Abbas Tajudeen put the motion to voice vote which was adopted by the house and was refered to committee on National Security.
