There was drama on Friday at the Presidential Election Petitions Court (PEPC) on Friday when the court admitted certified true copies of academic certificates of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu tendered as Bola Adekunle Tinubu by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
The documents included a B.Sc certificate from the Chicago State University; an NYSC Discharge Certificate, and Mobil Nigeria Oil Plc Certificate of Service said to have been obtained by President Bola Tinubu, however, bearing the names Bola Adekunle Tinubu.
As had been their procedure, counsels to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Tinubu, strongly opposed admittance of the documents, but the Court gave nod of approval and they were admitted in evidence.
The PDP had brought the documents through their witness, Mike Enahoro Ebah Esq, who stated that the documents and certificates were “purportedly” obtained by Tinubu, but bore the name ‘Bola Adekunle Tinubu’ eliciting drama at the hearing.
Led in evidence by PDP counsel, Chris Uche (SAN), the witness also tendered forms EC13 and EC9, nomination forms and the letters written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as attachments.
Counsel to INEC, Abubakar Mahmoud (SAN); Tinubu, Emmanuel Ukala (SAN) and the APC, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) who objected to the admissibility of the documents are now set to cross-examine the witness, since the court had overruled them.
