The Nigerian Anthropological and Sociological Practitioners Association (NASA), has appealed to the incoming government both at federal and state level to take lead agencies in internal security which is the Nigerian Police Force very important in the new dispensation.
They also called for adequate empowering of the Police in terms of capacity building, logistics and renumeration.
This appeal was made by AIG. Ahmad AbdurRahman, the AIG zone 14, comprising of Kaduna and Katsina states, during the 27th Annual National Conference of NASA Tuesday at the Baze University, Abuja.
AbdurRahman said, “Taking along lead internal security agencies will reflect positively in the fight against crimes and criminality and NASA is an organization that constitutes of the umbrella organization of all human aspects in life which affects the human behavior and the characteristics that triggers behavior that cannot disconnect from crime and criminology.
“I am glad to be decorated today as a Fellow of NASA which is a positive development to the Nigerian Police Force and that is why the Inspector-General of Police in his magnanimity, approved my coming here to accept the award because he knows the potentials of the association in assisting in crime fighting.
On his part, the President, NASA, Prof. Nkemdili Nnonyelu noted that the conference was informed by social change, need for value, re-orientation for the nation’s future.
“We looked at the failures of the institutions as being responsible for the crimes in the nation and moving forward in the public service, we need a resetting to make sure we have strong institutions rather than individuals.
“We need institutions to facilitate growth and the fundamental thing is durable and well lasting institutions rather than individuals,” he said.
An awardee, Prof. Chioma Onyige, a Professor of Criminology, Department of Sociology, University of Port Harcourt, stressed the need to reduce unemployment rate and stem the tide for women and children who become victims of human trafficking, since they are the most vulnerable when it comes to irregular migration from Nigeria to other countries.
