*As he lampoons Ugwuanyi’s administration with style

The first voiceferous confirmation that the out-going Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s administration was a huge disappointment came from the Enugu State Governor-elect Mr. Ndubuisi Mbah, who said that in six months of taking office, Enugu City homes will once again start having potable water flow from the abandoned public water pipes.

This promise was among the ambitious plans Mba said he will be “in a hurry” to execute upon being sworn-in.

Enugu, the capital city of old Eastern Nigeria, has been without pipe borne water for over four years, with Ugwuanyi taking delight to Commission private water tankers for vending water whose sources cannot be vouched for.

For that long period of time, water borne diseases and hardship enveloped the city, although residents were afraid of speaking out for fear of consequences.

But Mba making public his fovernance plans divided into ten key issues that constitute his priorities upon assumption of office, placed reactivation of public water supply on top of his priority list.

The priorities include the following:

1. Bring water to all homes in Enugu metropolis in 180 days of being sworn in.

2. Dualize the Abakpa, Ugwuogo Nike-Nsukka road.

3. Build a monorail from Enugu to Nsukka, Udi, and Awgu.

4. Construct a ring road to connect all the 17 local government areas of Enugu State.

5. Build a world class Theme Park in Enugu.

6. Establish Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in all the local government areas.

7. Create Agro-Allied Processing Zones in the three senatorial zones.

8. Create Industrial Parks in all the senatorial zones.

9. Build a School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), an Innovation Incubation Centre, in each of the three senatorial zones

10. Establish Skill Enhancement Centre in each of the three senatorial zones.

In his acceptance speech, Mbah touched on a number of issues that played up during the campaign and the need to overcome them for the sake of progress in the state.

In particular, he spoke about relations between Nkanu and Nsukka cultural zones and maintained that there is no friction.

“Under our administration, there can never be division between Nsukka and Nkanu or any other section of the state. We are all brothers and sisters.

“Those who wanted to smack our heads together had an ulterior motive and it was to create perpetual fussing and fighting between us.

“We resisted their machination and today, we are coming together stronger,” he said.

He was happy that voters transcended divisive propaganda to vote for him and the PDP.

Those who voted, he said “abandoned political party divides, religious denomination cleavages, clan and tribe.

“All you demanded was the candidate who would guarantee a tomorrow for you and generations of Enugu to come,” he said.

He therefore pledged “to dedicate every of the 1,460 days that make up this initial tenure of office to serving” Enugu.

“We will speak resoundingly with policies of government that will give you comfort and rest of mind,” he said.
