…Many passengers abducted

Unknown gunmen on Saturday evening, invaded and abducted unspecified number of passengers from a train station in Igueben Local Government Area of Edo State.

This is coming barely eight months after terrorists suspected to be Boko Haram insurgents attacked an Abuja-Kaduna-bound train, abducting several passengers.

The State’s Police Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwabuzor who confirmed the incident in a statement, said several persons were injured during the unfortunate attack.

It was gathered that the victims were waiting to board a train to Warri in Delta State when the assailants invaded the station shooting sporadically.

THE Nigeria Railway Corporation, NRC, has announced the indefinite shutdown of Ekehen Station in Edo State.

The announcement came on the heels of the attack and abduction of some passengers on Saturday.

In a message shared on the passengers’ WhatApp Group, the Corporation said, “Public Announcement: This is to inform our general public and most especially our esteemed passengers, that Ekehen Station has been temporarily closed due to security issues, till further notice.”
