Troops of Operation UDO KA have cleared suspected hideouts belonging to members of the IPOB and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network during a coordinated offensive operation in Ihiala LGA in Anambra state.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation was conducted on March 13 by troops of Section 5, Operation UDO KA, with support from the Nigerian Navy outpost in Onitsha.

The sources said the troops launched a mounted advance into the Oraumoghu general area following intelligence reports indicating the presence of suspected IPOB/ESN fighters operating from hideouts within the locality.

According to the sources, the operation involved the deployment of four Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles (MRAPs) and a bulldozer to aid in the clearing of suspected terrorist camps and obstacles along the route.

During the advance, troops encountered improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by the suspected militants in an apparent attempt to hinder the movement of security forces.

An IED detonated during the operation, affecting the bulldozer being used in the clearance mission. However, the equipment was later safely recovered and returned to base.

Further search of the area led to the recovery of four IED batteries as well as several sharp metal fragments believed to be components used in the fabrication of explosive devices.

The troops subsequently secured the area and maintained operational dominance to deny the suspected militants freedom of action within the axis.
