The Nigeria Police Force has reassured citizens that the country remains stable and firmly under control, warning that citizens should avoid engaging in acts that could lead to bringing in foreign conflicts.

The Inspector-General of Police, Ag. IGP Olatunji Disu, warned against Nigeria becoming a theatre for foreign ideological or sectarian conflicts, due to the actions of some individuals or group due to the geopolitical developments abroad.

In a directive to Commissioners of Police across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, with particular focus on the North-West, North-East and North-Central zones, the IGP ordered heightened surveillance, strengthened intelligence gathering and increased visibility policing around worship centres and other public spaces.

The police hierarchy has also intensified collaboration with traditional and religious leaders to prevent any attempt by individuals or groups to exploit international developments to incite unrest.

Force Public Relations Officer, Ag. ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the Nigeria Police remains resolute and fully prepared to safeguard lives and property, stressing that any attempt to import external tensions into Nigeria would be met with the full weight of the law.
