Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army (NA) and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have intercepted a suspected gun runner and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition during a stop-and-search operation in Taraba State.
The operation, which took place on 21 February 2026 at Sarkin Kudu in Ibi Local Government Area, was carried out based on credible and actionable intelligence. Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, disclosed this in a press statement.
According to him, vigilant troops on sentry duty flagged down an Audi vehicle with registration number RBC 798 DV (Abuja) for routine checks. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the arrest of the suspect, identified as Mr Monday Reuben, a 48-year-old male from Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
Items recovered from the suspect include two AK-47 rifles, 197 empty magazines, and a large quantity of ammunition. The ammunition recovered comprised one box of 7.62 x 51mm NATO rounds containing 250 rounds, fourteen packs of 9mm Parabellum ammunition with 700 rounds, and nineteen rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
In addition, troops recovered the sum of ₦2,440,000, four identification cards, four ATM cards, an Android phone, an Itel keypad phone, a power bank, eight bottles of perfume, a rechargeable touch light, and assorted local charms.
The suspect and all recovered items are currently in military custody and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and necessary legal action.
Commander, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Micheal Akaliro, commended the troops for their alertness and professionalism. He stressed the importance of sustaining ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities in Taraba State.
He further assured residents that the Brigade remains committed to its mandate, as directed by the Chief of Army Staff, to rid the state of all forms of criminality and threats to lives and property. The commander also reaffirmed the Brigade’s reward and sanction policy, noting that officers and soldiers involved in the successful operation would be recognised for their dedication and commitment to duty.
