Indigenes and residents of Imama Community of Iwollo in Ezeagu Local Government Area, in Enugu State, were agog on Sunday, 28th December, 2025, as their Igwe-elect, High Chief Obinna Anieke (aka Obidon, Ozoigbondu Gburugburu) doled out tricycles, motorcycles, Dolman machines, welding machines, bags of rice, beans, vegetable oil, salt, pepper, and other food items, as gift items to the less privileged natives and young men who needed empowerment to take off in various businesses.
The occasion was held at the Imama-Iwollo Community Field, and was attended by several dignitaries from the local government, including Hon. Chima Obieze, the member representing Ezeagu LGA at the Enugu State House of Assembly.
Other dignitaries were the oldest-living Catholic Priest in Ezeagu, Rt. Rev. Msgr. Edward Kanife, Rev. Dr. Anthony Njom, and several other dignitaries too numerous to mention.
A concelebrated High Mass officiated by Msgr. kanife and Rev. Fr. Anthony njom, kicked off the grand event, where Msgr. Kanife, while preaching the Homily, reminded the community folks and indeed, every well-to-do citizens of Ezeagu, of the need to empower the less privileged, especially as it appears government is no longer living up to its primary responsibility to the citizenry, by creating jobs or using fair and equitable means to employ qualified persons into the few vacancies created in government.
He commended Chief Anike (alias Obidon) for his magnanimity and uncommon spirit of sharing out of his meagre resources.
The Catholic clergy reminded wealthy Ezeagu Indigenes to emulate Ozoigbondu and bring around them the teeming young men and women roaming the streets, especially from their various communities, in order the stem the tendency for young people to join criminal gangs or imbibe the quest for the unfortunate get-rich-quick syndrome.
Chief Anieke himself, said he was pushed to carry out the annual empowerment programme, which has lasted for over 15 years, by his desire to assist people who deserve to be assisted.
He called on the youths to shun criminality, stressing that rather than provide wealth to anybody engaged in nefarious activity, it would put such a person in perpetual fear and pitch them against law enforcement agencies.
He promised to improve on what he provided by 2026, adding that those who successfully out their work tools to productive use, would be further assisted.
