The National Working Caretaker Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike has insisted that there is only one legitimate leadership structure recognised within the party and dissolved 14 State Working Committees (SWC).

This was disclosed in a communiqué issued at the end of a meeting of the committee held on Wednesday, in Abuja and read by the Acting Publicity Secretary,  Haruna Jungun.

He group said the PDP is firmly under the leadership of Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed, dismissing claims of parallel structures within the party.

The committee warned individuals and groups it accused of attempting to drag the image of the party into disrepute to desist from such actions.

It specifically described as false, reports circulating in the media that the group led by Tanimu Turaki (SAN) had been recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The group challenged Turaki to publicly produce the INEC upload code, which he used to submit his executive list, noting that no such recognition exists.

In further resolutions, the NWC ratified the dissolution of several state working committee, while confirming caretaker committees to oversee party affairs in those states.

The affected states are: Borno, Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Ekiti, Bayelsa, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Delta, Taraba, Kano and Lagos.

The committee also assigned portfolios to some of its members to ensure effective administration of party activities.

Those assigned include: Prof. Adenike Ogunse as Women Leader, Engr. Deji Dohati as Deputy National Secretary, Sen. Olaka Ogunwu as Treasurer, Hon. Jungu Haruna Mohammed as National Publicity Officer, and Ambassador Dr. Ibrahim Bala-Aboki  as National Youth Leader.

On the party’s electoral timetable, the committee approved a calendar for the conduct of state congresses scheduled to commence from January 9, 2026. It explained that the PDP national convention would be held only after the conclusion of the state congresses.

Earlier in his address, the Acting Chairman Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed said that the group is the one that is aligned with the party’s constitution.

He said, “We have only one PDP under my leadership and my team as the caretaker committee of our great party. Party is all about being in line with the constitution of the party and that of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“This body is well-aligned and understands the law of the Federation and the constitution of our great party. We have only one body as PDP under  my leadership” he reiterated.
