The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, has appealed to Nigerians to “be patient” with the Tinubu administration over the persistent wave of mass kidnappings, arguing that it is “not easy” for troops to capture bandits and terrorists who retreat deep into forests after attacks.
Recall that over the past few days, the country has witnessed an exacerbated spate of insecurity, including the kidnapping of over 200 schoolchildren in Kaduna and Niger states and the seizure of dozens of travellers along major highways.
But the APC spokesperson Tuesday morning on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, made the claim while responding to mounting public outrage over the abduction of schoolchildren, women and travellers across the North-West and North-Central regions.
“I am not a law enforcement person, but I imagine that when people who commit these crimes withdraw into the tents of the forests, it’s not easy for the army to simply capture them,” he said.
He cautioned against “commenting too much” on ongoing security operations, explaining that arrests and interrogations “take time” and are not always immediately publicised.
“Even common criminals sometimes take days, if not weeks, to get results. So I think we need to be patient,” Morka added, describing the release of some victims as “good news” and insisting President Bola Tinubu has given security agencies a “matching order” to rescue everyone and end the crisis.
