Notorious bandit leader, Kachalla Dan Sa’adiyya has ordered Gama Giwa and nearby communities in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State to pay a N50m levy within one week.
According to the villagers, the demand for the levy is coming after months of forced labour on the bandit leader’s farms, where they were made to work throughout the rainy season without any payment.
They had hoped for a break after the harvest, but instead they are now facing what residents call another round of heavy pressure and intimidation.
Security analyst, Bakatsine shared on X handle that according to locals, the mix of unpaid labour and the new levy has pushed families into deeper fear and hardship.
Many say they feel trapped under the control of an armed group that dictates their work, movement and even the results of their farming season.
Residents say they can only continue to pray and hope for a time when their safety, dignity and livelihoods are no longer controlled by threats.
