Karma will visit those working against PDP — Damagum

Factional Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, has warned that karma will visit those working against the unity and progress of the party, describing acts of betrayal by some members as a grave injustice to an institution that has given them political identity and relevance.

Recall that the PDP has been enmeshed in leadership and legal tussles ahead of its national convention, following conflicting court orders and internal suspensions. While the Oyo State High Court recently cleared the party to proceed with the convention in Ibadan, a faction has continued to question the legitimacy of the Damagum-led National Working Committee.

The party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) had earlier appealed for calm and reconciliation, urging all factions to unite ahead of the convention, which is expected to elect new national officers and chart a path toward restoring stability in the main opposition party.

Damagum, who spoke on Thursday during a meeting with 26 PDP state chairmen at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, said despite the ongoing internal crisis, the PDP remains vibrant, resilient, and fully prepared for its elective national convention scheduled for Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, 2025.

“I want to use this opportunity to call on our colleagues that the devil is using to see wisdom in casting the devil in them because treachery, especially to an institution that has made you what you are today, will not heal,” Damagum cautioned. “You may be lucky now, but there is the law of karma. What goes around comes around.”

He urged aggrieved members to retrace their steps, stressing that loyalty and unity remain key to the PDP’s survival. “Sometimes, when I resort to the ways of God, people think it is weakness. We exist because God exists. He will judge us by our behavior,” he said.

Damagum maintained that the party’s forthcoming convention in Ibadan would mark a new beginning for the PDP, saying the exercise would produce “a formidable National Working Committee that will reposition the party for greater electoral success.”

According to him, “People are saying the PDP is dead. Today, in Nigeria, the story is about PDP. So you don’t tell stories about something that does not exist. This is an attestation that PDP is alive, ready, and capable of navigating the challenges within our fold and solving those bedeviling our country.”
