Tigran Gambaryan, the former head of financial compliance at Binance Holdings Limited, has criticised the Nigerian government, describing it as a “lawless regime” that empowers criminals and neglects the welfare of its citizens.
His comments came while reacting to United States President Donald Trump’s recent remarks on violence against Christians in Nigeria.
Gambaryan, reacting in a statement on his X handle, accused those in power of prioritising personal enrichment over protecting the lives and rights of Nigerians.
“Nigeria is currently run by a lawless regime that relies on criminals and thugs more interested in enriching themselves than in taking care of their citizens. Cowboy up,” he wrote.
His remarks follow Trump’s warning on Saturday that the United States may halt aid and potentially take military action against Nigeria if attacks on Christian communities are not urgently addressed.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump claimed he had instructed the Pentagon to draw up contingency plans, arguing that Christianity in Nigeria faces an “existential threat.”
“If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and may very well go into that disgraced country ‘guns-a-blazing’ to wipe out the Islamic terrorists committing these atrocities,” Trump said.
He added that any intervention would be “fast, vicious and decisive,” concluding with a direct warning to Abuja to “move fast.”
However, the Nigerian government has repeatedly denied allegations of religious persecution, insisting that security agencies are working to address insecurity across all regions.
