The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a 5-man gang suspected of kidnapping, extortion, and theft along the Zaria-Kano expressway.

The suspects, identified as Ibrahim Abubakar Garba, Umar Fulani, Aliyu Mohammed, Murtala Salisu, and Imrana Hassan, were apprehended following complaints about their activities.

This was contained in a press release from CSC Babawale Afolabi, the Public Relations Officer, NSCDC Headquarters, Abuja on Tuesday.

According to the NSCDC Special Intelligence Squad Commandant, AS Dandaura JP, the gang flagged down a journalist, Sani Ahmad, claiming there was danger ahead, and then forcefully retrieved valuables from him, including phones and cash. The suspects have admitted involvement in the crime.

Recovered exhibits include six mini smart phones, ATM cards, wrist watches, and other personal belongings.

The NSCDC is conducting a thorough investigation, and the suspects will face prosecution while the Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has warned travellers to be cautious, especially during late-night movements, as the Yuletide season approaches.
