The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced progress in the ongoing process for registering new political parties, confirming that eight out of fourteen pre-qualified associations have successfully uploaded all required documents.
Recall that on September 11, 2025, INEC announced that 14 political associations had been pre-qualified for the next stage of the registration process after meeting the preliminary requirements. The Commission later held a briefing for the associations on September 17, 2025, to guide them through the portal upload procedures and documentation standards.
In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, the Commission said the dedicated portal for document submission was opened from September 18 to October 18, 2025.
The eight associations that met the deadline are the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), Citizens Democratic Alliance (CDA), Abundance Social Party (ASP), African Alliance Party (AAP), Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA), Green Future Party (GFP), National Democratic Party (NDP), and Peoples Freedom Party (PFP).
According to the statement, INEC will now begin a detailed assessment and verification of the documents submitted by the associations to ensure full compliance with the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Electoral Act 2022, and the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties (2022).
Olumekun emphasized that the verification exercise would be conducted in line with legal standards and the Commission’s commitment to transparency.
“The Commission will carefully assess each application to ensure that every association meets the constitutional and legal requirements for registration.
“INEC remains committed to inclusivity, transparency, and the deepening of Nigeria’s democratic culture,” he said.
Olumekun further assured Nigerians that the Commission would continue to operate in a manner that upholds fairness, accountability, and public trust.
“Our processes are open and transparent, and every decision taken is guided by law and aimed at strengthening our democracy,” he added.
