*DSS medical facility suitable to handle Kanu’s ailments, court rules

Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Thursday, gave the embattled leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu until 30th October, 2025 (one week) to close his defense against the terrorism and sponsorship of renegade groups terrorising parts of the country levelled against him.

The Judge, during Kanu’s appearance in court on Thursday, set Monday, October 23rd for the IPOB leader to commence his defence, while giving him till October 30, 2025, to close his defence.

Kanu’s legal representative, Barr. Aloy Ejimakor, disclosed this in a post on his official X handle after the court session.

Ejimakor said: “Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s case has just been adjourned to 23rd October 2025 for commencement of his defence.

“The Judge further held … that MNK (Mazi Nnamdi Kanu) has until 30th October to close his defense.”

Meanwhile, the court had earlier ruled that DSS medical facility is suitable for Kanu’s medical care, dismissing concerns about his health while in custody.

Kanu is facing terrorism-related charges brought by the federal government.

The court’s decision upholds the DSS’s responsibility for Kanu’s medical care during his trial, while also setting a timeline for his defense.

The case has been adjourned to October 23rd, 2025, for the commencement of Kanu’s defense.
