The Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) has distanced itself from a planned protest by a group of staff at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja. The protest, announced on a WhatsApp platform named NASS Forum, is reportedly being organized by a group calling themselves “Concerned Staff.”
In a recent memo signed by Comrade Sunday Sabiyi, PASAN’s. Chairman, PASAN stated that it is not involved in the organization of the protest and has urged its members to disregard any information suggesting otherwise. The union emphasized that it is the only registered and legitimate staff union in the National Assembly.
According to PASAN, the issues the protesting staff plan to raise have been substantially addressed by the National Assembly management. The union revealed that it has established a committee to investigate outstanding issues, including grey arrears, and is actively engaging with management to resolve these matters.
PASAN has advised its members to remain on duty and avoid participating in the protest, citing the potential negative impact on the institution’s image and operations. The union has also called on the National Assembly management to investigate and prevent the protest from taking place within the complex.
In a show of commitment to collaboration, PASAN expressed its willingness to work with the management to address any concerns and challenges faced by its members.
