The Federal Housing Authority (FHA) has inaugurated its 110 completed housing units, Express View estate built and a complex at Lugbe in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director Mr Oyetunde Ojo, said the estate is expected to add to the national housing stock and help in reducing housing deficit.
The first phase of the Estate comprises 50 units of terraces and flats for the middle and low-income earners, who had subscribed to the housing scheme during the President Muhammadu Buhari administration in 2021, in partnership with BAM Properties.
He said the FHA complex was conceived out of its old office structure, in order to provide a more conducive working environment for its staff in the Lugbe office and also as a way for generating revenue, adding that it consists of office spaces and also houses the FHA Mortgage Bank.
Ojo said the FHA has commenced the process of constructing Renewed Hope Estates in 17 states of the country in the 1st phase, having concluded the procurement processes with the intention of providing affordable homes for Nigerians.
He said, dwelling less on the challenges it met and focusing on the future, the management decided to adopt phased completion of the projects it inherited and getting Nigerians into the houses, rather than waiting for when the entire project would be completed.
He urged the newest landlords to live harmoniously and work with FHA to maintain the estate by living up to statutory obligations, even as he encouraged the formation of virile resident associations “not to fight the Authority, but to serve as responsible stakeholder for the smooth running of the estate.”
He said: “What we are doing today is a deliberate and well-tailored towards the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Housing. On assumption of office about 17 months ago, our Management hinged our agenda on this mantra of Renewed Hope, which is embedded on provision of affordable and livable houses to Nigerians. We immediately strategized towards the realization of this goal”
Earlier, the Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr Shuaib Belgore, said, to change the story of housing in Nigeria, the ministry needs stronger partnerships between the FHA, Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, developers, mortgage institutions, cooperatives, pension funds and private sectors.
