Confirming the incident, the State Police Command through it’s Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, said sophisticated firearms and millions of naira in cash, were recovered from them following a lone motor accident on August 18, 2025.

He said the police received a distress call and promptly reacted which lead to the arrest of one of the suspects and recovery of weapons and money.

According to the police public relations officer, “a distress call was received from Angwan Mayo community regarding a lone crash near the VIO checkpoint at about 0908hrs”

“The accident involved an Opel Vectra vehicle with registration number PLATEAU BLD 566 ST, and two occupants who fled the scene immediately”

He explained that the Police operatives arrived and discovered that members of the public had gathered, while a vigilant VIO officer handed over a G3 rifle and cash recovered from the accident vehicle to them.

Other items recovered from the suspects includes one AK-47 rifle, one type 06 rifle, one G3 rifle, three magazines,57 rounds of live ammunition and N6.9 million in cash.

Detailing, the PPRO said the suspect Mohammed Tahir, from Barikin Ladi LGA of Plateau States, was arrested after escaping to the forest.

“One suspect Mohammed Tahir, a male, from Barkin Ladi, Plateau State, was arrested after escaping into the forest,” he said.

He further said that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a member of a seven-man kidnap gang responsible for the abduction of a lawyer in Nyanya, FCT Abuja, from whom ransom was collected.

He said efforts are on-going to apprehend the remaining suspects who are at large.

He also said the Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, CP Shettima Jauro Mohammed, has directed that the suspect and recovered exhibits be moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Lafia for further investigation.

The command reassures the public of its commitment to working with sister security agencies to rid the state and its environs of crimes.
