The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested 567 suspects and rescued 17 victims of kidnapping and trafficking in a major crackdown on crime across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Morris Dankwambo, disclosed this during a media briefing in Yola, adding that the arrests were the result of coordinated operations carried out by the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, Intelligence Response Team, Tactical Units, and divisional police officers.
Exhibits recovered during the operations included six AK-47 rifles, three pump-action guns, 11 locally fabricated rifles, 435 rounds of live ammunition, 11 magazines, three vehicles, five tricycles, four motorcycles, and various stolen items including laptops, mobile phones, and charms.
Dankwambo said notable among the arrests was the apprehension of two women: Ngozi Abdulwahab, 43, and Uche Okoye, 55, accused of child trafficking.
A total of 13 trafficked children en route to Anambra State were rescued and have been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
The Commissioner also noted that four additional kidnap victims were rescued and reunited with their families.
He affirmed the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order and assured that all suspects will be charged to court following investigations.
