Contrary to opinion in several circles, the former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice (AGF), Abubakar Malami, SAN, has debunked insinuations that there corruption loomed large during the administration of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Malami, who insisted that corruption didn’t thrive under Buhari, argued that the past administration recorded thousands of convictions against high profile corruption cases.
He disclosed this while featuring on an interview on Arise TV, Tuesday night.
Malami insisted that Buhari maintained a firm stance against corruption while in office, dismissing those who say his administration perpetrated and encouraged corruption.
According to Malami: “During the period of President Muhammadu Buhari, corruption was not thriving at all.
“If you talk of convictions associated with high-profile corruption cases, the government recorded convictions in thousands.”
Malami disclosed that $2 billion stolen funds were recovered during Buhari’s administration, wondering how people could ascribe corruption to such an administration.
“He ensured we put into use the Single Treasury Account, which created a governance-wide visibility associated with funding the finances of the government,” Malami stressed.
