The troops of 37 Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Demonstration Battalion, has recorded a significant breakthrough in the fight against armed robbery, banditry and other acts of criminality in Kaduna State.

Acting on credible intelligence, the troops, while on fighting patrol, intercepted and arrested 3 suspected gunrunners along the Kauya-Old Afaka-Sabon Birni road in Igabi LGA of Kaduna State on Thursday 10 July 2025.

The Director Defence Media Operations, Maj-Gen. Markus Kangye said a press statement that the suspects, identified as Yakubu Jilbril (45 years), Abubakar Yahaya (45 years) and Isiya Sani (30 yeras), were arrested while driving in a black Golf-4 Car with Registration Number, ABUJA YAB 385 K7. 

He said a large cache of arms and ammunition suspected to be meant for criminals in the bush was recovered from their possession. 

“The recovered items include quantity 9 x AK 47 rifles, 389 x 7.62mm (special) live rounds, 54 rounds of 5.56 x 45mm (NATO) ammunition, 17 magazines and 4 GSM handsets.

“Others were quantity one magazine carrier, One machete, some charms, One MTN WIFI modem, Suspected illicit substances, tyre cold patching materials and the sum of N365,600 only.

“The suspects and the recovered items are in custody for further investigation. The swift action if the troops dealt a significant blow to the activities of terrorists, armed robbers, and bandits in the area. 

“The Defence Headquarters commends the bravery and professionalism of the troops involved in the operation and reassures the public of the continued commitment of AFN in ensuring the safety and security of lives and property,” he said.
