Liverpool FC forward Diogo Jota has died in a car crash in northwestern Spain, according to reports.

The 28-year-old was killed in a crash near Zamora alongside his brother Andre Silva, 26, also a professional footballer, according to the Spanish news agency EFE.

Already, tributes has started pouring in with Piers Morgan saying: “Desperately sad news coming out of Spain that Liverpool and Portugal star Diogo Jota, 28, has died, along with his brother, in a car accident in Zamora. He only got married 2 weeks ago. Heart-breaking.”

Gary Neville said: “That is heartbreaking news on Diogo Jota and his brother. All my love and best wishes to his family.”

The 28-year-old forward began his career in his native Portugal and played at Atletico Madrid in Spain before coming to England.

He joined the Merseyside club from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020.

Jota played an important role throughout his five years with the Reds, including scoring six times in Liverpool’s recent Premier League-winning season.

An avid video gamer, Jota also owned an eSports team and regularly streamed on Twitch.

He got married two weeks ago to hid long-term girlfriend, Rute Cardoso and has three children.

Jota’s brother, Andre Silva, 26 and also a professional footballer, reportedly died alongside him in the crash.

Diogo Jota married his long-term girlfriend Rute Cardoso two weeks ago.

They had been in a relationship since 2012 before Jota proposed in July 2022.

Sharing images of the wedding online, the former Liverpool forward said: “June 22, 2025. Yes to forever.”

The pair have three children together.
