Rotimi Amaechi has dared Nyesom Wike to a public walk without security details in Port-Harcourt even as he Thursday declared the Bola Tinubu administration as the worst in the history of the country.
Speaking in an interview on Thursday night, Rotimi Amaechi, the penultimate governor of River State said the street walk with Wike, his successor, would determine the popularity of both men.
While chiding Wike for being too disrespectful of his seniors, Amaechi in the interview with Seun Okinbaloye, dared him to a street walk, thus: “We have so much noise going on. Let the minister for FCT and I don’t want to make the subject of the conversation. Let him come let us take a walk from the airport to Port-Harcourt, no police, no army just two of us.
“There is so much noise, I don’t know why he (Wike) doesn’t respect people like us. I am older, I brought him in politics.
“He is a distraction and if opposition continues to focus on him, we will be distracted from making the people know that this election is between the people and (Tinubu).
Besides the challenge on the street walk, Amaechi also dismissed the peace agreement between Wike and Governor Simi Fubara of Rivers State.
“Why should I intervene? Didn’t you see the outcome? Don’t you get impressed by my reaction that somebody has surrendered and you can see the looting going on in government.”
Told that the Buhari government he served in was described as derelict in policies and programmes and turned the economy into tatters, he quipped back.
“I hope you know that they are now asking Buhari to come back. Let us assume it is true, but this one is burying it.”
Amaechi also bemoaned what he described as the emergence of an authoritarian president saying that Tinubu on his own appointed the chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum, NGF, a body he said is supposed to independent.
“Now governors cannot even talk. When I heard that the chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum was appointed by the president I almost collapsed.”
