The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Abubakar Badaru, while declaring open the 2025 edition of the Defence Training Conference called for performance-oriented, future-driven Armed Forces of Nigeria.
Speaking at the Armed Forces Officers’ Mess in Asokoro, Abuja, the Minister emphasized the complex and evolving nature of Nigeria’s security landscape, stressing a shift from conventional training approach to dynamic, technology-integrated, and mission-focused strategies.
The conference, according to Mati Alli, Personal Assistant, Media and Publicity to the Minister, the conference with the theme, “Performance-Oriented Training and Trends in the Contemporary Operating Environment,” brought together top-ranking military officers, policymakers, defence experts, and international partners.
“We are no longer fighting yesterday’s wars. The threats we face today are asymmetric, borderless, and technologically advanced. Our training must therefore reflect this new reality,” the Minister stated.
Highlighting the Ministry’s strategic direction, Nadaru outlined key areas of focus, including the modernization of training facilities, integration of cyber and space capabilities, joint inter-agency and international exercises, and enhanced cooperation with global military institutions.
He reiterated the federal government’s commitment to investing in the human element of national defence through improved welfare, leadership development, and psychological resilience of the personnel.
The Minister urged conference participants to deeply dissect critical issues, such as leveraging simulation technology, building modular training systems, and strengthening civil-military relations to support national development.
He applauded the Defence Headquarter for organizing the event and commended the Armed Forces for their continued commitment to professionalism and national service.
“The 2025 Defence Training Conference must not end in theory. It should drive actionable outcomes that enhance operational effectiveness both at home and abroad,” he stressed.
The event marks a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s pursuit of a more adaptable, technologically driven and strategically aligned military.
