The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike’s led Group of 5 and key Peoples Democratic Party stakeholders have insisted that Sam Anyanwu must be reinstated by the party as its substantive national secretary.
At the end of a meeting under the umbrella of “PDP concerned stakeholders” drawn from the 36 states and FCT, convened by Wike, the leaders said the party must heed to the supreme court judgement and immediately return Anyanwu to his position.
Though one of the G5 members and Governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde was absent at the meeting but former Governor of Enugu, Ifeanyi Uguanyi, Dr Samuel Ortom of Benue, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state were in attendance.
In a communique read by Nyesom Wike late Monday, the stakeholders agreed that there was the need to reinforce internal democracy, equity and justice within the party.
They regretted that the party is on an inevitable path to self destruction, if necessary steps are not taken to correct the selfish tendencies that brought the party to its knees in the lead up to the 2023 election.
The communique cited refusal of a few to adhere to the party constitution with particular reference to section 36 (1) A& B and (C), sections 47 (3) (5) and 48 (1) (i) and the definitive Court judgement regarding Anyanwu’s seat as one of the lapses that must be corrected.
It added that in the spirit of fairness, inclusion, federal character principles and respect for the party’s constitution and make an unequivocal pronouncement of the presidential candidate to the South in 2027 elections after the unbroken years of Northern President under Muhammadu Buhari.
The communique reads: “In line with the provisions of our party constitution only the national secretary, Senator Sam Anyanwu can issue notices of meeting of the national convention.
“Also notices of National Executive Committee, National caucus and the National working committee, therefore, all notices not issues by Anyanwu are null and void and of no effect.
“We, the stakeholders reiterate our commitment to our great party and urge all members to uphold the rule of law, respect constitutional mandate, resist all machinations aimed at destabilising the party and support the efforts of the National Reconciliation Committee headed by His Excellency, Senator Bukola Saraki.
“Therefore, the party must, without further delay, respect the judgement of the supreme court. We, therefore, unequivocally reaffirm Senator Sam Anyanwu as the duly elected and substantive National Secretary of our great party.”
