House of Representatives member,  Barr. Sunday Umeha, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Umeha was elected on the platform of the Labo Party.

The Rep member, representing Udi/Ezeagu Federal Constituency, announced his defection at an event of the APC at Ibagwa Aka, Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State on Saturday, 17 May, 2025.

Speaking at the rally, Umeha said the protracted crisis rocking the Labour Party both at the national and state levels, have made it impossible for him to effectively represent his people.

The lawmaker said his decision to join the ruling party is because of the need to connect to the centre and bring our people closer because “there are lots of advantages in plugging to the center.”

He also said that the APC has served the interest of Igbos better than the PDP at the federal level, citing the Enugu-Onitsha expressway and the Enugu-Port-Harcourt roads, as some of the landmark projects the current ruling party is reconstructing in Igbo land.

He is yet to speak to his constituents on this decision as at press time.

he was also recently named chairman of the LP Caretaker Committee in Enugu state.

Umeha has this become the first APC member to hold any elective position in Enugu State.
