A desperate attempt by a woman identified as Ihensekhien Miracle Obehi to smuggle a large quantity of cocaine to Iran has been foiled by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Port Harcourt International Airport (PHIA).

NDLEA director of media and advocacy, Femi Babafemi, weekend, stated that the suspect, Obehi, who disguised herself in a hijab, was intercepted at the departure hall on Sunday, while attempting to board a Qatar Airways flight to Iran via Doha, following credible intelligence.

A thorough search revealed that she had concealed three wraps of cocaine in her private part, two large parcels in false compartments of her handbag, and had swallowed 67 pellets of the illicit drug.

“After days of observation, she excreted all 67 pellets and confessed that she initially intended to swallow 70 pellets but resorted to hiding the remaining three in her private part after ingesting 67.

The total weight of the cocaine found on her amounted to 2.523 kilograms,” Babafemi said.

In a related operation at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos, on Friday, NDLEA operatives intercepted a 22-year-old British national, Campell Kaizra Kofi Johannes Slifer, arriving from Thailand via Doha on a Qatar Airways flight.

Two suitcases belonging to Slifer were found to contain 35 parcels of “loud,” a potent strain of cannabis, weighing 37.60kg. Slifer, a self-confessed ex-convict with two prior convictions for drug trafficking and robbery in the UK, admitted to being recruited in London to transport the consignment from Thailand to Nigeria.

Meanwhile, in Niger state, NDLEA officers, acting on intelligence, intercepted a fuel truck marked ABJ 693 XU and three other vehicles along the Suleja-Kaduna road on Wednesday.
