Nigerian social media influencer, Mr. Martins Vincent Otse, aldo known as, VeryDarkMan, has reportedly been arrested by the police in Abuja after raising concerns about unauthorized deductions from his mother’s bank account, allegedly by Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank).
His legal representative, Barr. Deji Adeyanju, confirmed that officers of the Nigeria Police Force took the influencer into custody at Area 3, Abuja.
According to Adeyanju, the arrest stemmed from VeryDarkMan’s public criticisms of GTBank, regarding suspicious and repeated deductions labeled as loan repayments.
Adeyanju stated: “My client was arrested simply for speaking out about repeated debits from his mother’s account for loans she never took.”
Before his arrest, VeryDarkMan had taken to social media to share his frustrations, posting evidence of multiple deductions from his mother’s account.
He explained that they had gone to a GTBank branch in Abuja to demand answers and request a detailed account statement.
He wrote, “My mom and I went to GTBank to understand why they keep deducting money from her account in the name of loan repayments she never took.
“We’ve already seen over seven deductions this year alone.
“We’ve asked for her bank statements to trace where and when it all started.
“The staff were cooperating, and we hoped to find answers.”
GTBank is yet to react to the story. However, several Nigerian have of recent complained bitterly on the bank’s spurios deductions, but the regulatory authorities seem to be tacitly giving the bank approval or lending support indirectly.
