Police dismantle criminal den in Anambra

*Arrest suspect linked to murder, sit-at-home enforcement

The Anambra State Police Command from the Rapid Response Squad and Anti-Kidnapping units of “Operation Udo Ga Chi – Zero Kidnapping,”  have successfully dismantled a criminal den in Ukpor, Anambra State.

The operation, conducted on 25th April 2025, led to the arrest of 35-year-old Ewulu Chikwo at Osumoghu Isieke Village, Ihiala Local Government Area.

According to a statement from SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Anambra State Police Command, the suspect was apprehended while allegedly planning to enforce an illegal Sit-at-Home order in the area.

“We received credible intelligence about the activities of this criminal group and acted swiftly to prevent them from carrying out their plans,” Ikenga stated.

During interrogation, Chikwo confessed to being a member of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and admitted to his involvement in the violent attack on the Ukpor Divisional Police Headquarters in 2022, which resulted in the tragic murder of Inspector Stella Maris.

“This individual has not only endangered lives through his criminal activities but has also shown complete disregard for the law and the sanctity of life,” Ikenga added.

In light of these developments, the Joint Security Force has increased patrols in the vicinity to ensure public safety. Ikenga assured the public, saying, “We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of our communities. Any information regarding criminal activities will be acted upon decisively.”

The State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to respond swiftly to any security information, particularly concerning the apprehension of other gang members.

This operation underscores the on-going efforts by the police to combat crime and ensure the security of the citizens in Anambra State.
