There seems to be no end to the defection haemorrhage in the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as Delta State governor and the entire members of the State Assembly are set to dumped the umbrella for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The plan was learnt on Wednesday after a closed-door meeting held at the Government House in Asaba.

Pointblank News stumbles on an online video showing members of the State Assembly singing the popular song associated with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu “On your mandate we shall stand” indicating that the defection plan has been sealed.

According to sources close to the development, the decision followed “extensive consultations with political stakeholders” and was said to be made in the interest of the state’s long-term growth and development.

Governor Oborevwori and the entire team elected on the PDP platform in 2023, will officially be received into the APC by Monday.

Political observers have described the move as a major realignment that could reshape the political landscape of Delta State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

While Governor Oborevwori is yet to make a public statement on the defection, sources say further details on the rationale behind the move may emerge in the coming days.

It was also learnt that the decision to switch party became necessary following the recent defection of Senator Ned. Nwoko who is a close ally of Tinubu and prepared to do everything possible to ensure that he wrestles power from the incumbent governor in the next governorship election.

Other heavy political stalwarts in the state like former governor of Delta State, James Ibori and former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege who are very close to President Tinubu have been working round the clock to ensure that the State surrenders to the President in 2027.

Efforts to get reactions from the National Publicity Secretary of PDP was unsuccessful as it was learnt that they we holding National Working Committee (NWC) meeting.
