The Kano State Police Command, on Sunday, paraded a member of the Kano State House of Assembly, Isiyaku Ali, and 164 others arrested for allegedly trying to set ablaze the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and a police station.

Ali, of Gezawa Constituency, was alleged to have led a team of hoodlums to destroy the INEC collation centre in Gezawa.

Already, INEC had declared the House of Assembly result of the area inconclusive following the violence that marred the elections.

The Deputy Inspector General in charge of election in Kano, Hafiz Inuwa, while parading the suspects, said they were arrested for various crimes, such as ballot box snatchings, disruptions of elections, engaging in violence, wielding dangerous weapons and engaging in drugs related crimes.

He warned that the police would not tolerate any breakdown of law and order, and vowed that the suspects would be investigated and prosecuted accordingly.

Also speaking, the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Gumel, urged the public to cooperate with the police in ensuring that they do not engage in wild celebrations that might lead to a breach of the law as the police had banned wild celebrations in the state.
