Nineteen ad-hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were kidnapped this Saturday morning, March 18, 2023, on their way to conduct the State House of Assembly election in their assignment areas.

A report from the state said that the incident took place in Ideato Local Government Area.

“The 19 kidnapped NEC ad-hoc staff have, however, been rescued by security operatives following a distress message but the electoral materials seized from them, including BVAS machines, are still missing,” the report said.

Imo State is not holding the governorship election today as the state governor’s seat is not up for contest, being one of the off-season elections, yet, there appears to be too much hoopla in the state.
