The Anambra State governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo has restated  that he is committed to ensuring the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, anytime soon.

Soludo who stated this in a quarterly statewide briefing of the people of the state on radio,  said he had booked an appointment with  President Muhammadu Buhari to discuss Kanu’s release.

He said he was only awaiting confirmation of an appointment with the president, where he would  discuss the issue of security in the South-East with the president and why Kanu should be released to return peace to the geopolitical zone.

Soludo had during the kickoff of the nation-wide campaigns of his party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)  in Awka about two months ago, called on the Federal Government to release Kanu,  pledging to stand  surety for him, if the FG found it difficult to release him( Kanu) unconditionally.

In reply to Soludo’s request, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami had said that Soludo only made a statement, but had not applied to the court, or to his office about Kanu’s case.

But speaking during the quarterly briefing, Soludo said he would  meet with   President Buhari in that respect, any moment soon.

He said releasing Kanu would help him (Kanu) to intervene in areas where people used secessionist agitation as  decoys to perpetuate criminality.

Soludo said, “On the issue of Nnamdi Kanu, his release does not mean that insecurity will be completely eliminated. The call is in the best interest of the South-East as a whole.

“Kanu  was sad by the level of crime associated with the agitation when I visited him in prison. He called it an abomination.

“Everyone has now become freedom fighter, using Kanu’s detention as an avenue to commit crime. The truth is that if he is released, he would be able to distinguish between genuine freedom fighters and criminals.

“What is still holding him back is a political issue. I am awaiting confirmation of appointment with the President to hand him the letter officially”, Soludo stated.
