Ebonyi state government Tuesday, constituted a reconciliation committee to restore peace in Ekoli Edda community, Afikpo South local government, Ebonyi state.

Ekoli Edda community was in turmoil following several killings that involved a 7-month pregnant woman, a police sergeant, and a brother to the state APC chairman among others.

It was believed that the crisis was between the Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Stanley Emegha, and the House of Rep candidate of the same APC, Eni Uduma Chima.

But a report from the state Exco meeting of Monday 16th January 2023 exonerated the duo from the crisis.

Briefing journalists on Tuesday at the old Exco chamber Abakaliki, the state commissioner of information and Orientation Barr. Uchenna Orji noted that a finding from the  Nigeria Police Ebonyi state command proved that duo was not involved in the crisis.

The text of the briefing said,

“Exco received a briefing on the police interim report on the ugly incident that happened in Edda, Afikpo South Local Government Area, and the Governor’s directive on those involved in the unfortunate mayhem that led to the loss of lives.

“Exco noted the Police report which revealed that the culprits had been apprehended and would soon be charged in Court.

“Exco however noted the fact that the statements from the suspects did not indict the duo of Hon. Barr. Eni Uduma Chima and Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha of any complicity in the needless attack.

“EXCO directed that a Peace and Reconciliation Committee be set up in the afflicted area made up of the following persons: Sen. Sonny Ogbuoji Chairman, Hon Nkama Nkama Ude l,Secretary, Dr. (Amb.) Michael Okoro, Prince Etta Uk, Engr. Kalu Ama Mba, John Igwe, Prof. Ibiam Ekpe, Engr. Hon. Ufere Okoroafor, Ama Kalu Ikwor.

The committee according to Mr. Orji is to “resolve the conflicts between brothers and sisters of Ekoli Edda and institute a permanent spirit of forgiveness and peace among the people of Ekoli Edda.

“Make recommendations to the Government on the way forward for peace and love among brothers and sisters of Ekoli Edda”.
