The Nigerian Election Debate Group NEDG has rolled out plans for the 2023 presidential election debates.
At a joint news conference in Abuja, by the organising partners , the group said four presidential candidates are to be chose via a poll to participate in the debate.
The executive secretary of the NEDG, Dr. Eddie Emesiere said the debates also involving vice presidential candidates would be held in Abuja, Port Harcourt,Lagos and Kano.
The organising partners include the Broadcasting organisation of Nigeria, the Nigeria Economic Summit Group, the Nigeria union of journalists, the guide of editors amonsgt others.
The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Election Debate Group, Dr Eddie Emesiere said the debate which also involving Vice Presidential Candidate would be held in Abuja, Port Harcourt, Lagos and Kano.
Dr Emesiere explained that the debate would include town hall settings and have been streamlined along sectorial areas covering the Economy, Security, Restructuring, Foreign Affairs, Education among others.
Dr Chuka Mordi, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Economic Group NESG, one of the organizing partner said an opinion poll whould be used to determine the four candidates that would be invited to participate in the debate.
The Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria BON, led by Dr Yemisi Bamgbose is providing the media platform for the debate which is to be relayed on major TV and Radio networks and interpreted into four main languages including Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo and Pidgin English.
The Civil Society is also represented in the arrangements.
Mr Austin Aigbe who is of the Centre for Democracy and Development, CDD said the promises made by the candidates would be recorded and used to track their winners.
The organizers believe the debate would provide Nigerians the opportunity to hear and interrogate the major Presidential and Vice- Presidential Candidates for them to make informed decisions ahead of the polls.
