Determined to ensure proper understanding and operation of the newly introduced Bimodal Voter Accreditation Sysem (BVAS), ahed of he 2023 general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC said it has concluded plans to commence the training of over 1.4 million adhoc staff will be trained in the effective usage of the Bimodal Voter Registration Systems (BVAS) for the 2023 general elections in Nigeria.
INEC National Commissioner, Festus Okoye, made this disclosure during an interview on Channels TV’s show tagged, “2022 In Retrospect, an End-Of-Year special,” which was monitored by our correspondent in Abuja
The Commission assured that it has sufficient BVAS to conduct elections in the 176,846 polling units nationwide.
According to Okoye, “We want to train our ad hoc staff longer so that we won’t have people not knowing how to use the BVAS and blaming it on technology and so on.
“The BVAS, which we said will be the game-changer in relation to this election, is in place. And I want to confirm that we have a sufficient number of BVAS that will be used in the conduct of elections in the 176,846 polling units across this country,”
“We are also harvesting the names and details of those that will serve as our adhoc staff. For the two elections, the national and state elections, we are going to engage over 1.4 million adhoc staff and we are going to train them,” he said.
Okoye further stated that the processes and procedures of the commission are going well as planned and Nigerians should expect a very good election in 2023.
“People of this country should expect that INEC will conduct a very good election. Conducting a very good election in terms of the fact that we started preparations for the 2023 general elections immediately we finished with the 2019 general election.
“As of today, our processes and procedures are going well as planned.”
Okoye said by December 30, 2022, political parties were supposed to have submitted the names, signatures and personal particulars of their polling agents in relation to national election.
Okoye stated further that all political parties and their candidates are expected to submit the names, the signatures, photographs and particulars of their agents on state elections,latest January 6, 2023, adding that the Commissionm will release the official list of accredited voters on January 12, 2023
“All these things are going as planned and they are going to be accomplished on schedule.” Okoye assured
Okowa task Deltans to deliver 1m votes for Atiku
Delta state governor and Vice-Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, has challenged the people of Delta states to produce no fewer than one million votes for the PDP in the forthcoming general elections.
Okowa argued that the only a massive vote from his state would justify his emergence as running mate to the party’s Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, even as he urged the people to massively use their votes for PDP to demonstrate their acceptance of his choice as the Vice presidential candidate of the party “for the good of all Deltans and Nigerians”.
Governor Okowa, who gave the charge when he spke at Ogwashi-Uku during the party’s local government campaigns in Aniocha South and Aniocha North Local Government Areas of the state.
The governor said that his emergence was an act of God because he was at his home when he was chosen to become Vice-Presidential Candidate of the party.
“We have over 3.3 million registered voters in Delta and I challenge us to churn out over one million votes for our party to enable us deliver on our Rescue Nigeria mission.
“The more votes we bring from Delta, the bigger my voice will be in the party and the greater things we will witness in Delta and Nigeria.
“I know that we have won this election already but we need to up our numbers because God has endorsed our election and we are only waiting for the day to come and pass,” hesaid.
He urged the people to go back home and mobilise votes for the party, and affirmed that God had sanctioned the party’s victory at the polls.
“This election is a BIVAS election; so, it is quite different from what we have been having but I am optimistic that we have the numbers to win.
“Let us go back home and collect our Permanent Voter Cards and ensure that we reach out to all our people wherever they may be,” the governor stated.
On the governorship election, he disclosed how God revealed Oborevwori’s emergence to him, and charged the people to support him because God had endorsed him as a worthy successor.
“The emergence of Chief Sheriff Oborevwori as our party Governorship candidate is divine because God revealed his emergence to me and I can assure you that he is a very humble man who will be answerable and accountable to all our people.
“I have known Sheriff for over 30 years and I can assure you all that he is a good man and he will continue to unite Deltans.
“Since we came, God has helped us to continue to unite Deltans and he will continue with our programmes, policies and projects.
“So, let us cast our votes for the PDP candidates and vote out the APC because they have destroyed our unity and brought hunger and insecurity to our land.”
