A newly commissioned female Lieutenant in the Nigerian Army has been abducted by gunmen suspected to be members of the Indigenous People of People (IPOB) in Enugu State.

“According to a viral video released by her captors Phibi Johnson claimed she is from Abia State.

She was abducted in 26th December, 2022.

The video showed the female soldier, Lt. Johnson stripped naked and tied hands and legs, badly manhandled and one of the male voices interrogating her vowing to kill her in the next few hours for enlisting in the Nigerian Army,  to serve as example to others.

The Nigerian Army is yet to issue any statement as at the time of filing the report, but members of the public have reacted angrily at the activities of unknown gunmen and IPOB militants, saying it has severe negative consequences not just in the South-East, but in the country generally.

All the people who reacted wondered why the IPOB would attack a harmless person who managed to secure employment in these hard times, especially where people from the South-East zone appear to be marginalised out of Federal employments.

They also wondered why those criminals should attack a helpless young lady, stressing that “this madness now growing in the South-East and destroying the age-long hospitality of Ndigbo must stop”.
